As many of you know, my mom has had two surgeries on her right shoulder since December and her range of motion has been very limited. She tried to brush/comb me everyday, but it would cause her shoulder to hurt. Recently, mom has noticed that my floof looked a little "ratty" and when she rubbed her fingers through my floof, she found lots of mats. Since she is finally out of her sling (unless I put her back in it this week), she spent Labor Day working on my floof.
We began with a brushing. I used to run to mom and start purring when she pulled out the brush, but we've gotten out of the habit and the mats tend to hurt. Mom feels really bad about the lack of grooming lately.
Then, out came the FURminator! We recently won this from a promotion with Romeo and Mom has been slowly working with me to get used to it. At first, I didn't like it and I've started resisting my regular groomings. But, today, mom was determined she was going to work on my floof with the FURminator, the comb, the brush, the slicker brush, and the nail clippers (she uses these to clip out the mats when she can't work them out and they aren't pointed so they won't cut me).
This is what she removed today!!!
Mom says we still have a long way to go, but that I am looking much better. She says my floof is so fine that she has to really dig down into my floof with her fingers to make sure I don't have any more mats. All of this "work" has worn me out. Do you think my belly floof looks better?

Wow Praline, the before and after photos of your coat are amazing! Your human must have worked really hard to get your fur all groomed and unmatted! I bet she does feel really bad about not being able to groom you properly, but with her shoulder, how could she? I hope it doesn't ache too much after all her effort because it really paid off!

Our mom is so envious! Believe it or not, we don't shed much and don't mat. She loves to comb kitties and misses Cerise for the challenges she posed. Maybe you could come up here for a few days and mom would work on you? She would be in her glory and you would get lots of good girl treats.

Your Mom could make a sweater with all that floof! Your tummy looks all nice and fluffy now. KonaKitty has fur like yours and Mommy brushes her every day, too.

Mom brushes us every day, too, Praline. We all love it! Well, except Gracie... she doesn't 'love' love it yet, but she likes it pretty good now where she use to hate it.
We've never gotten that much off, but we understand your Mom's surgeries have allowed extra furs to hide under all those floofs!

wow, yes, definitely an improvement, Praline Dear. you and your mommeh just need to go slow, like you are doing, and work through it all together. when it starts to bother you, takes a break. Happy De-Floofinating! :)

Hi Prailine! We of course think you always look gorgeous but you did look like you could use a good brushing in that before picture - but the after looks great! WE hope your mom is doing ok after all that - our mom said that combing a floofy kitty can be a good workout (even us short furs can be tough!) We hope her shoulder is finally starting to get better - try to be nice and take it easy on her when she is brushing you right now (and you are a sweetie so we know you will!)
Oh, and we were telling Twinkie's mom about you because of your colors - you are the only tortie we knew of in your colors (most are the more black and orange or gray and orange)til Twinkie's mom took in a pregnant cat who had babies, one of whom is a short haired tortie in your colors - since it is unusual we had to mention you to her (and we told her how cute your face it too because we just love it!) So it was all good stuff.
